Topic: MySQL vs Array - performance

From the performance point of view, what is the better choice - to fetch data from MySQL database or to have data store in array? By a few records probably is the same. But if there are
200 000-500 000 records? Let say we have created primary keys, etc. - what then? Has anybody compared the time needed to fetch a data? Are there any benchmarks?

Re: MySQL vs Array - performance

200-500k records?  Wow.  What is the nature of what you're doing?  In most cases, it would be very hard to beat the performance of a database unless you're doing something like modeling or scientific computing.  I would probably try doing it in a a database first, and if the performance isn't adequate, refactor it to another method. - Brewery and Brewpub management powered by RoR
