Topic: Installing Rails 3.0.0 - File not found: lib

I'm brand new to Ruby and Rails. Started today. I have a Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard. I've got Rails 2.3.5 installed but I want to upgrade to 3.0 to work with my book. Help is much appreciated, I'm incredibly new.

Re: Installing Rails 3.0.0 - File not found: lib

gem install rails

Should do the trick. That said, it's best to run rails 3 with ruby 1.9.2. I'm guessing you have 1.8.7. Regardless, you should be able to install it just fine. What error do you get when trying to install the gem?

Re: Installing Rails 3.0.0 - File not found: lib

sudo gem install rails
Password: {entered}
Successfully installed rails-3.0.0
1 gem installed
Installing ri documentation for rails-3.0.0...
File not found: lib

...What's wrong here?

Re: Installing Rails 3.0.0 - File not found: lib

Found this thread here: http://help.rubygems.org/discussions/pr … -found-lib

You can try just running:

sudo gem install rails --no-ri --no-rdoc

For curiousity, would you mind running:
ruby -v
gem environment

then paste the output from both on here?

Re: Installing Rails 3.0.0 - File not found: lib

I had the same problem on Snow Leopard 10.6.4. Solution I found was to manually reinstall RDoc.

sudo gem install rdoc-data
sudo rdoc-data --install
sudo gem rdoc --all --overwrite

I am fairly sure that the last command will install the relevant documentation for Rails if you have followed agm_ultimatex's suggestion, but rerunning

sudo gem install rails

shows that rails now installs properly and says that it has installed both ri and RDoc documentation without issue.
