Topic: how to use two computers to serve the rails website

Hey all,

Our company has one server with growing traffic. I have created a slave replication server, and i can use the backup server (the slave) to write to the master database, but read from the slave.

What i would like to do though, is use the backup (or another) server to help with the load on the main server, especially durring high traffic times. Our computer does a lot of calculations, disc access is high, so bandwidth is not the limitation.

I would also like the ability to do it with one ip address, but i can get another if it allows a better alternative or solution.

Anyone have any good tips for me?

thanks

that's a massive topic.
Have a read here

there's a lot of info in that link but it should at least give you a starting point.
Might be worth your while using the online chat facilities for a couple of Rails hosts to see what load balancing software and hardware configurations they use.

What you want and what you need are too often not the same thing!
When your head is hurting from trying to solve a problem, stop standing on it. When you are the right way up you will see the problem differently and you just might find the solution.
