Topic: AJAX tutorials

I am looking for a tutoral for doing AJAX on RoR. I want a tutorial thats like this flickr tutorial "http://media.rubyonrails.org/video/flic … s-ajax.mov". but the problem is that the tutorial is focusing on RoR writing on macs, and macs use unix as there command line but I am on a windows machine and it uses DOS as the command line.

the tutorial doesn't have to be video, but that would be a plus. and the tutorial has to be for windows or for multiplatform which it could be done on windows.

Re: AJAX tutorials

There's little difference between Windows and OS X when it comes to running ruby code. At worst you might have to replace calls to "./script/server" with "ruby script/server", but there are very few changes otherwise. Just use the editor you're comfortable with; you don't have to use Textmate.

Re: AJAX tutorials

ok. can you tell the DOS version of the following commands?
sudo gem install -r flickr
script/generate controller flickr
script/lighttpd

I just want to be able to follow allow with the video tutorial, but the command lines has to but a a** when it comes to cross-platforming

and I want other tutorials of AJAX with RoR

Re: AJAX tutorials

gem install -r flickr
ruby script/generate controller flickr
ruby script/server
(you don't need lighttpd for development, webrick or mongrel will do)

Re: AJAX tutorials

You might be interested in the video at http://www.peepcode.com. It is a fairly long video (50 minutes) and talks about RJS (which you can use to do AJAX with Rails). It is a pretty good tutorial, although I prefer the book over the screencast, simply because it acts better as a reference.
