I work in windows environment ,
i have a working copy of ruby(1.8.7) on rails(2.3.8) with gems(1.5.2). I installed pik to maintain several versions of ruby and then installed ruby(1.9.2 p190) successfully, further when i tried to install rails(3.0.0) using gem install/ downloaded gem i get an error like this,

ERROR:  While executing gem ... (Gem::RemoteFetcher::FetchError)
    too many connection resets ( … 3.0.10.gem)

Please find screenshot attached,

Re: ERROR:While executing gem ... (Gem::RemoteFetcher::FetchError)

cat  ~/.gem/credentials, if it looks like

:rubygems_api_key: "{\"rubygems_api_key\":\"bsadsadasdasdasdasdasdas\"}"

change  it to

:rubygems_api_key: "bsadsadasdasdasdasdasdas"

your actual key will be different,   just edit it so it looks like the second version

Re: ERROR:While executing gem ... (Gem::RemoteFetcher::FetchError)

Couldn't figure out exactly what went wrong, but still went out to carry on the installation right from the beginning and got things working perfect. Thanks a ton Mr.BradHodges, but still i couldn't understand how to perform the way you specified. Love to learn it, so incase you find time, kindly do explain in detail how to do this in windows os.

Re: ERROR:While executing gem ... (Gem::RemoteFetcher::FetchError)

Brad's command is for Linux OS, and you are on Windows as I see smile)
