Topic: Please Help! Trying to install rails stack on a Slicehost VPS

I recently got a VPS from Slicehost and I am having a terrible time trying to get rails set up properly.  I followed this tutorial on the rails wiki http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages … byBindings and I still cannot get it to work.  I stopped at the part where it tells you to try your test application... because it didn't work.

I get a 403 error when I try to access http://www.ericsessions.com/home/index.  It says "Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /home/index on this server."

the document root is /var/www/ericsessions.com/public/testapp/public  (its got two publics b/c I'm trying to use apache w/ a vhost setup and each domain will have domain.xxx/public as its document root then I created the rails app in the document root for my vhost ericsessions.com)

I removed the index.html file.

I did chmod 755 testapp but it still returns the same error.  I don't have a clue where to start.  Thank you very much in advance.

Have you considered using the deprec gem? That's what I used on my slice and it worked with very little hassle.

Yeah, deprec is amazingly sweet. Also, you might want to try the Slicehost forums. The people behind Slicehost and other users on there are quite friendly and helpful, and they might know a bit more when it comes to Slicehost in particular.
