Topic: Adding it all up

I'm working on an application where there are a bunch of stats on each page.  Those stats are generally things like number of users but also include some other numbers that involve adding up numbers in a users profile (e.g. our 10 users have a total of 4000 karma points)

I suppose I could do the math on each pageload but it seems like an awfully lot of database activity.  Instead, I was planning on creating a table in my database and when a stat changes, I would write it to that table in addition to the regular database updates.  Does that seem like a reasonable way to go?

If so, by virtue of having a table in my database does it mean that I should create a model?

Re: Adding it all up

You may be better off looking into caching before you do that to your DB.
