Topic: Installing Ruby on Rails in Windows XP

I want to install Ruby on Rails in my Windows XP.

I have these packages which I found base on tutorial from here (http://www.onlamp.com/pub/a/onlamp/2005 … tml?page=2):-

1. xampp-win32-1.7.1-installer
2. mysql-essential-5.1.34-win32
3. HeidiSQL_4.0_Setup
4. apache_2.2.11-win32-x86-no_ssl
5. ruby186-27_rc2

Can I use all these software?
Can you recommend what's the best?

I'm using InstantRails, too.
It's quite easy to install, and then you have everything you need.

Re: Installing Ruby on Rails in Windows XP

You can also try Netbeans 6.7 (RC3 now, www.netbeans.org), download just Ruby IDE. You can easy manage all configuration, gems, servers from Netbeans. Or you can install all you need via command prompt:

1. Install Ruby (download Ruby Windows Installer)
2. Check installed Ruby version in commande prompt like that:

ruby -v

If everything's OK yuo 'll see:
ruby 1.8.6 (2008-08-11 patchlevel 287) [i386-mswin32]

2. Update your system gem like that:
gem update --system

3. Install rails, mongrel
gem install rails
gem install mongrel

4. Install gem you need for your DB connection, for MySQL, for ex:
gem install mysql

for Oracle DB:
gem install ruby-oci8
gem install activerecord-oracle-adapter --source http://gems.rubyonrails.org

5. Check your installed gems in command prompt:
gem list

or directly in Netbeans
THat's all.
