Topic: Can't access http://localhost:3000

Hey. I am having some issues setting up RoR on my laptop. I successfully set everything up on my desktop yesterday. I followed the same steps today on my laptop, but when I try to access http://localhost:3000 I get "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:3000." Please help!

I have the following installed (manual install - not instnt rails):
- Ruby 1.8.4 (stable)
- RubyGems 0.9.0
- Rails 1.2.1
- WEBrick 1.3.1
Both PC's running Windows XP

I have been using the essential training on www.lynda.com to get started, which guided me through the install pretty thoroughly. And like I said before, everything went fine on the first system.

I created a directory (c:\sites) and created a rails project with 'rails mysite'. I am able to successfully start the server with 'script/server'. Then, when I try to load http://localhost:3000 - nothing!

Why won't this work.

Re: Can't access http://localhost:3000

Keep Task Manager open when you start the server - see if the process shows up and, if so, whether it disappears right away.

That error message happens when there's no server running so there must be somthing wrong with webrick.

As an alternative, try installing the mongrel gem ("gem install mongrel") and then try restarting the server.

Thanks for your reply danger.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get WEBrick to work using Ruby 1.8.4 - even tried Mongrel but no luck. I finally uninstalled 1.8.4 and went with 1.8.5 and everyhing is working now.

Great!
