Topic: mash up of different apps

Hi,
I'm a newb at Rails and Ruby (R/R) and here to the forums so please move this thread to the proper place if I miss posted.

I tried to do some searching on "mash up"s but the forums didn't really come up with what I was looking for.

What I'm trying to do is pick up applications from different projects and build them into 1 larger project.
I would like to stick with all R/R.

cms, forums, one off type of apps.

I do realize that logins/db and such will need to communicate with each other ... have done similar things in PHP.
I just had to "basically" fix links, combine login routines, calls to the db (mysql), and such.

But ....

My problem is with my R/R skills and understanding of Rails which is still at 1 week of goofing around with installing different apps and gems.

1.) Is this possible with Rails?
2.) what should I look into or watch out for?
3.) can I just pull in the app files (MVHC) or do I have to rake those sections and then copy/paste the code?

ugh, sorry for the silly questions it's just that my PHP understanding is making life with R/R a little difficult at the moment, I keep trying to remember that I need to rethink/relearn what I have learned ....

Thanks !!!

my 930 goes weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :-)

Re: mash up of different apps

Hello cr930,

In Rails you can use Engines which are applications (like forums, wikis, authentication systems...) embeddable in others applications. It has has been integrated in Rails 2.3, see http://railscasts.com/episodes/149-rails-engines and http://rails-engines.org/introduction.
