Topic: Trouble running rails-upgrade

I am trying to upgrade an app from 2.3.5 to 3.0.7.  Rails-upgrade starts but asks for the doe gem. I have doe installed as a plugin. How can I make rails accept the plugin rather than requesting the gem ? install gem doe says it doesn't exist ??????????????

neil@baby6:~/*****$ script/plugin install https://github.com/seattlerb/hoe.git
already installed: hoe (https://github.com/seattlerb/hoe.git).  pass --force to reinstall
neil@baby6:~/*****$ cd rails-upgrade
neil@baby6:~/*****$/rails-upgrade$ rake rails:upgrade:check(in /home/neil/*****/rails-upgrade)
rake aborted!
Could not find RubyGem hoe (>= 2.1.0)

Re: Trouble running rails-upgrade

Now the terminal says

rake aborted!
no such file to load -- vendor/plugins/rails_upgrade

From googling I know other people have had this problem but I can't find
an answer. What am I doing wrong??

Re: Trouble running rails-upgrade

Did you follow this railscast?
http://railscasts.com/episodes/225-upgr … s-3-part-1
The main thing to pick out here is that you need to switch to 2.3.x then run the upgrade then switch to 3.x to perform the checks.
there are 3 casts in that upgrade series which I have just followed to upgrade a major app perfectly but you MUST make sure your tests are all passing before you upgrade otherwise you will be in trouble and likely miss a lot of errors once you have upgraded

What you want and what you need are too often not the same thing!
When your head is hurting from trying to solve a problem, stop standing on it. When you are the right way up you will see the problem differently and you just might find the solution.
