Topic: Is rails broken out of the gates on ubuntu edgy, and centos 4?

Well I'm a J2EE guy trying to get rails up and running on ubuntu edy.

I have build an app on my XP box, and in the windows world it works just fine.

Today I was supposed to deploy the app, but I cant get Rails running on unbuntu.

I have followed a few tutorials, and even tried on Centos 4, each time with he same result.

When I run webrick if get 404's even with a very basic set up.  the console log shows "Anonymous modules have no name..."

This should be easier than what I have gone through.

So I tried Apache 2, and cgi, and fast cgi.  I get as far a showing the welcome page, but when I hit an action, I get "Routing Error".

I dont need to support a  large number of user, so webrick would be fine, but I'm just pulling my hair out wondering what could be wrong.

The funny part is that rails was super easy to set up in windows.

One of the many guides is https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RubyOnRails

Can somebody please help.

Man, how sad that it was easy to set up in Windows but not *nix...

Could you post what shows up when you type the following in?:

ruby -v
rails -v
gem -v

I never had any issues getting Rails to work in Ubuntu. Just installed gem, and "gem install rails", presto.

What does the development.log (or production.log) file say?

I'm developing rails apps in Ubuntu Dapper with no problems.
