Topic: ActionMailer Rack Space email configuration

After spending a night fighting with this, I thought I would share my config for ActionMailer for posterity in the hope that others may benefit when using rack space email.

    config.action_mailer.delivery_method = :smtp

    config.action_mailer.smtp_settings = {
      :address              => "smtp.emailsrvr.com",
      :port                 => 587,
      :domain               => 'mydomain.com.au',
      :user_name            => 'info@mydomain.com.au',
      :password             => 'my secret',
      :authentication       => :plain,
      :enable_starttls_auto => false,
      :openssl_verify_mode  => 'none'}

    config.action_mailer.perform_deliveries = true

    config.action_mailer.raise_delivery_errors = false

I referred to this page for the answer http://davidroetzel.wordpress.com/2011/ … ification/

If anybody knows how to make that work with SSL, please let me know.

I did get this working using postfix on my own server at rackspace but decided to unload it onto rack space as my app could potentially send frequent email to thousands of recipients. These aren't spam but have opted in. I read that postfix can accept only 1,000 recipients in the string. I use bcc but the list could go to several thousand.

Will ActionMailer and the rack space email server accept an array of 3,000 recipients in the :bcc field? Should I iterate through the email addresses and send them in batches of 900?
