Topic: Finding ruby on rails programmers?

Hello everybody.  I'm having a hard time trying to locate an experienced company that will handle a new web project for me using the ruby on rails platform.  What is the correct procedure in locating experienced companies or individuals that handle custom web development projects for a fee?  Is there a directory of some sort?

Re: Finding ruby on rails programmers?

Try one of these places:

http://jobs.37signals.com/jobs -- job board at the blog of the company that started it call--$250 to post a job, but you get it in front of a lot of eyes
http://jobs.rubynow.com/ -- A job board especially for Ruby jobs
http://www.railsjob.com/ -- Rails jobs, also has a "for hire" section listing programmers (which might be especially helpful to you)
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages … pmentFirms -- List of development firms from the official wiki... many of these companies are available for work
http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace/vi … egoryid=19 -- Not the best place for RoR work, but, cheap to post a job ($10)

Eventually we might have a job board on this site... but we're just not big enough to support it yet. smile

Re: Finding ruby on rails programmers?

I also highly recommend Craigslist.  I keep hearing from employers that they get their best leads there - and I seem to get my best work there too.

Also, keep in mind that you may not need a whole company.  Rails provides such an incredible amount of leverage that one two three developers should be sufficient for even a very large application.

Re: Finding ruby on rails programmers?

I'll second Craigslist.  The last time I posted a job there (which was fall 2004--and it has grown a ton since), I had 35 replies in the first 12 hours, some garbage, but many quality stuff. This was in the Boston city section.  I ended up locating a smart MIT grad student who was willing to work for mostly equity. smile

Anyway, last night when I posted the Rails wiki had been hijacked by spammers, so I had do it from memory.  It's back now, and there is another section that might be of use to you, Available For Hire (though  it won't load for me at the moment). smile
