Topic: XML to DB

A client of mine has tons of data stored in his Filemaker Pro application. Looking over their docs I see that I can export this as XML. I am just curious if/how I can get Rails to automate the transition to MySQL. A migration script would be the bomb, but I'm not sure if this is doable.

Anyone have experience with this?

Re: XML to DB

This is something I might need to do for my current project as well. I wasn't able to really look into the details but I found these:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/en/ … tions.html
http://rpbouman.blogspot.com/2006/03/im … using.html
http://www.thescripts.com/forum/thread84432.html

That last one talks about PHP which could be ported to ruby. A lot of links to Navicat how-tos as well.

Thanks for the heads  up jbartels!

I will look into these very soon

Re: XML to DB

I think your best bet would be to use XSLT to generate a sql or migration file.  I'm new to RoR but deal with a ton of XML.  At the last conference I attended RoR got a lot of praise but XML support was universally noted as its biggest weakness.
