Wow I didn't know. What's the reasoning behind this?

There are some interesting discussions on this subject at the PPR wiki which might answer some things. You may want to create a new thread on this if you want to discuss it in a Rails context - it's an interesting idea to ponder, but I don't see UML improving the development process of Rails.

So moved to RadRails, RadRails is the way to go on Windows if you ask me.

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

I'm primarily using Emacs w/ emacs-rails on Windows Vista, Linux and Mac OS X.

It works great smile I own Textmate and have also been tinkering with e on Windows.

You really can't go wrong with Textmate, it's simply the best smile

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

I used jEdit for the longest time on my Windows machine.  It's pretty good, and is extendable by a ton of plugins.  RadRails currently has my attention, however.  I don't have access to a Mac, so I've yet to try Textmate, but I hear good things about it.

Although, when I get angry at sluggish Java editors, ssh'ing into the server and using Vim (my one true love) calms my nerves.  Heh.  I'm not sure if they've been mentioned, but if you're a Vim freak, the rails.vim and Project plugins are really nice.

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

Im on Windows so i'm using E because it seems closest to Textmate as you can get and runs Textmate bundles.
Still in beta but its actually great fun to use, especially compared with the slightly clumsy RadRails editor.

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

Are there any precompiled binaries of Emacs 22.0 or later for Windows? I've been using Emacs as an editor for a couple years and emacs-rails looks pretty nice.

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

Easy Eclipse for ROR: Nice IDE, inline debugging, has some nice features, no need to configure eclipse. http://www.easyeclipse.org/site/distrib … rails.html

jEdit: i found this to be rather bloated but I am sure it is very good if you can get through the learning curve.

Textmate: owns, get a mac

e: Pretty good, trialing it now.

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

VIM with rails.vim and surround.vim

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

I'm a regular emacs user, but I really dislike the rails plugin for emacs.  I haven't looked into the customizations for it too much yet, but the defaults that have bothered me include:

unexpected indenting (this goes for html modes as well)
reindent region changes everything into a blob.
newline after a comma doesn't align the next line where it should be (like python-mode)
annoying completion for <%, <%=, and strings.
pabbrevs (turned this off right aways because it was too distracting)

I'll look into it more when I'm more familiar with Ruby and Rails, but I'm more focused on the language and framework right now to fix these details.

Because it's what code craves.

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

I use RoRED:)

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

I use Ultra Edit. There is limited definition file for syntax highlighting for both rhtml and rb files. It can be used with a Unix server either using Samba or ftp/sftp to allow for local editing and then saving the file.

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

i use the best editor ever:

ed

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

Windows:
e (when i wants to work right)

Linux:
  scribes (needs tabs IMO)
e under wine (sketchy at best)

OSX:
textmate wink  -- its seriously the reason I dropped my linux setup. how sad is that

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

I still use rails.vim, but now use the NERD tree plugin also.

Noone seems to be using NetBeans.

I prefer NetBeans

Re: What editors do you use for Rails development?

I'm an early adopter to TextMate, converted from BBEdit. It is great. That said, I've recently given Netbeans a try as my partner and I have been looking for a cross-platform tool we could use when teaching our seminar classes. While I still prefer TextMate as an editor, I was pleasantly surprised at the general IDE features of Netbeans. I'm not a big IDE user, have used Eclipse (and have to still use it for other technologies like Flex), tried the Eclipse derived commercial offerings, etc., but NB seemed much more responsive.

Worth looking at. If only it had column-based editing. Anyone using it and have created an exact match key-set?
