Re: Index of all tutorials

Was going to suggest a sticky with an index of all the tutorials but then figured I might as well pull my finger out and create it myself, hope people find it handy.

Done some basic categorisation, but shout if you've got suggestions.

Np folks, not many ways I can give much back until I learn the ropes so glad to have contributed something handy.

Re: Index of all tutorials

Euh..pardon me...I'm a newbie for both Ruby and Rails, is there any link or books for rails 2.0.2 tutorial? A couple hours ago I studied rails from "agile development with rails" book but it seems that some of the tutorial given on that book do not conform with the rails 2.0.2

Thanx...and sorry if I ask in the wrong thread

Re: Index of all tutorials

Man. this is REALLY confusing. Without knowing which tutorials support Rails2 - I cannot go through any of the tutorials normally...
Can anyone point out some Rails 2 resources? I think it's all very confusing ...

Drozzy, are you experiencing problems with a specific tutorial?

I'm still firmly in the nuby camp, but I've come along way with working through older tutorials on Rails 2. Any issues I've encountered are often only related to a couple of things, e.g. the 'generate scaffold' command (it's taken the job of 'generate scaffold_resource'), RESTful routing and nested resources (Rails 2.0 wants to see the parent resource in paths, e.g. blog_posts_path, with 'blog' being the parent resource of 'post'), or a plugins being removed from the Rails core (e.g. pagination needing the will_paginate plugin).

Apart from those things, tutorials will usually work just fine - it's just makes learning a little more taxing when you have to bear in mind the changes in Rails 2. The silver lining; it keeps you on your toes!

Try the Rails 2 proof Akita screencast and tutorial;

http://www.akitaonrails.com/2007/12/10/ … st-english
http://www.akitaonrails.com/2007/12/12/ … l-tutorial

And definitely check out the Railscasts Rails 2.0 category and the Peepcode Rails 2.0 pdf.

Re: Index of all tutorials

Nice list, I have notice that its hard to start off doing some of these tutorials if your on rails 2.0 and the tutorial is for rails 1.2 or something, you end up running into some errors.  So I am starting to create a list of rails tutorials organized by what version of rails the tutorial is specified for.  Check it out if you want.

Re: Index of all tutorials

Thank you, this is quite a helpful index!  I think I've already gotten past the necessary Rails version reformatting, and as the "Understand Your Code" tutorial says, you really need to be able to do more than just copy and paste.  ^_^  But it's frustrating when tutorials don't just run and let you tweak them right away.

But now I should start working through these as I plan my first real app...

Re: Index of all tutorials

wow..thanks for this links..its all awesome and really a big help..

Re: Index of all tutorials

hi..how do i build a website using ruby on rails

any suggestions..

about the tutorials..sample code..books..or open source tools

Re: Index of all tutorials

The book I used to get started is Ruby: Visual Quickstart Guide by Larry Ullman.  Rails doesn't come up until the second to last chapter, but at least it's something.
