Topic: New

Hello everyone,

Great forum. Anyway, I have some questions. I am completely new to developing web applications, and my programming experience is very small. I have encountered OOP in C++ and that's about as far as my abilities go. My problem is that I have a lot of ideas but lack the technical skills to do much. While I suppose an 'easy' solution might be to link up with someone who can do RoR, I think I'd like to learn atleast something myself too.

So, to the point, what books/resources can you guys suggest for someone in my position, as I have very little technical experience but lots of enthusiasm anyway?

Thanks for any help.

Re: New

I would suggest picking up Agile Web Development with Rails.  Seems to kind of be the RoR starter book.  Start going through it, working on the tutorial, and I think you'll be in a good position to start trying out some of your other ideas.  Other than that, just read the forum and follow some of the links.  I think you'll find a lot of good resources that way.  Good luck!

Re: New

Check out Learn to Program if you're really a beginner.

Free older version: http://pine.fm/LearnToProgram/
Newer book: http://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/titles/fr_ltp/

It uses Ruby to teach, and I think it should generally give you a good foundation when you get into rails. smile
