Topic: MySQL: Administrating the Local Database Instance

Background:
I'm new to rails and I'm trying to setup my dev box.  I have used the instantrails package and have been able to get the cookbook example working on my machine.  I would like to be able to administrate my mysql instance with MySQL Administrator 1.2.12 but I am not able to.

Problem:
When I try to log into my local database instance with the MySQL Administrator I get this error:
"Either the server service or the configuration file could not be found.  Startup variables and service section are therefore disabled."

I'm logging in as:
Server Host: 127.0.0.1
Port: 3306
User: root

I want to be able to use a gui to administrate my database.  Can someone point me in the right direction?

Thanks

Re: MySQL: Administrating the Local Database Instance

We use Navicat (www.navicat.com) for viewing and managing data in our SQL databases. All schema changes are done through migrations although this runs on windows and connects to our development servers rather than running locally (although it'll work).

What OS are you trying on?
