Topic: How to pass input/ output params between stand alone app. and ROR

Hi all

here is what I need
- from a stand alone application in this case an Oracle jdeveloper form,
- click on a button
- open a web application in RoR,
- let the user choose several options in the RoR page and calculate a
Total Amount,
- return the total amount to the jdeveloper application

How can I implement the call to a web Ror application form a stand alone application, in this case jdeveloper form?

How can I read the value returned by the RoR application?

Could it be done with web services?

-Should the Oracle jdeveloper form call a web service to open the RoR application?
- the RoR web application returns a Total Amount value,
- the jdeveloper form gets the Total Amount from the web service

Which are the available options available to make a stand alone application to communicate with a RoR application?

Regards

Not sure I fully understand your question, but there are many cases where an external app will provide information to a rails app.  If you have control over the external app then I'd suggest passing the information in some way that your rails app can interpret via the params.  For instance, if your app posts to http://myapp.com/mycontroller/intrepret … y?paid=yes

then your controller would find the interpret action and decipher the params[:id] = viniosity and params[:paid] = yes.  In this way you've passed two pieces of info from one app to the other.
