Topic: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

What HTML editors can you use with Ruby on Rails applications for formating text in textarea fields for admin systems and such?

I currently use Moxicodes TinyMCE editor for ASP/PHP sites but thought there may be better, isnt very CSS complient, editors for Rails?

Re: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

FCKEditor has valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional code, wich makes me think it wouldn't be pulling teeth to style.

Re: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

The FCK editor is terrible... we changed to the Tiny MCE one which is slightly better. Where in the rails structure would I save the JS/css files, the public folder?

Re: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

I am working on a rich text editor that uses textile and is done in flash I plan on turning it in to a plugin. I think flash is a better solution than javascript for this particular task. I'll let you guys know when its out.

Re: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

There are many editors out there. TinyMCE and FCKeditor are the most common I think.

I personally prefer FCKeditor over TinyMCE, because it is completely FREE (The file browser for TinyMCE costs extra). Also, when working with TinyMCE it sometimes screws up the text formatting when loading it into the editor. That never happened with FCKeditor, especially when using them for in-place-editing.

There is not so much difference between both after all I think. They are really good.

Re: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

Does anyone have any insight into the benefits of either option?
I've used TinyMCE extensively, but I've never used FCKEditor.

Re: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

I've had very good results with FCKEditor. It's very clean and simple and 100% free.

There's a FCKEditor rails plugin, making it easy to integrate:

Re: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

Hi, im looking for really just one enhancement to text area, which a button to add href links, so people that dont know html can add links to there text. I dont need any other formatting. Is one of these overkill for what I am looking for? Is there any easy way to cheat and do what I want using less stuff?

thanks
Joel

Re: Rails WYSIWYG HTML editors

FCKEditor is really cool... and it does a lot.  BUT you can remove everything and only have the option to add a link.  Is it overkill to load in all that crazy code for one little feature though?  I don't really have experience with any others...
