I don't understand what's so bad about the Rails pagination.  It's designed such that it doesn't load all the rows that match the specified conditions - it only loads as many as can be viewed on the page.  It uses a separate count() query to identify the total number of records.

What's so slow/unstable/weak about this?  I've been using it on a number of sites and I'm curious whether I should be switching to something else.
