Topic: Good Search Plugin

What is a good search plugin? I have heard mixed things about acts_as_ferret (and almost picked it because I like ferrets!). I haven't really heard of any other plugins though.

Re: Good Search Plugin

I've used acts_as_ferret before, and it was really easy. Rails envy has a good tutorial on it here:

Re: Good Search Plugin

I use acts_as_ferret for a few things and found it good enough. Otherwise, I've heard of the Apache Lucene project but never used it but might be worth a google.

Re: Good Search Plugin

I also use acts_as_ferret and it does the trick. Just make sure you use the included DRB server in production mode or performance will be dodgy.

Another alternative I will be exploring is acts_as_sphinx

Re: Good Search Plugin

Yea, you pretty much have two options ferrett or sphinx. Ferrett seems to be more advanced of the two.
