Topic: Using VMware Fusion to Preview Sites in IE at http://0.0.0.0:3000/

Well I ponied up and bought a license for VMware Fusion and I installed XP so that I could test my sites in IE locally as I develop them.

But when I start my server and go to http://0.0.0.0:3000/ I just get "The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings."

Anybody doing this successfully?

I just wanted to let everybody know what you have to do.

Change the VMware guest's network settings to "NAT"

Open IE on the guest machine and go to http://my.computers.ip.address:3000 and it bingo, it works. (of course replace "my.computers.ip.address" with your host computer's ip address, which can be found in System Preferences >> Networking on a Mac)

Re: Using VMware Fusion to Preview Sites in IE at http://0.0.0.0:3000/

What was your networking set to before you set it to "NAT"??

Also what is your host OS and what is your guest OS??

There is an issue for Linux hosts and bridged networking where you get back TCP checksums when communicating between the guest and host. So you have turn checksumming off.

Re: Using VMware Fusion to Preview Sites in IE at http://0.0.0.0:3000/

Host OS: Mac 10.5
Guest OS: Windows XP Pro

I think my networking was originally set to "NAT" but I was messing with the settings.

I think the key here is to make sure you're entering the full ip address of the host, not just localhost or 0.0.0.0

you could also turn on web sharing in system preferences...then go to http://your.CPUs.ip:3000...
