Topic: ecommerce app - multiple domains

My question is similar to this post:

http://www.railsforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14735

Basically I have 2 (and more to come later) domains, one for selling, lets say, fruit, and one for vegetables. In other words, two separate storefronts that only display their respective product types (this is due to business reasons). Logins will work at all stores. In terms of layout the stores will really only differ on the logo and color scheme.

The sites are hosted on the same server. Is it possible to run all the sites off a single app and database? Is this the same scenario that is mentioned in the post above? Would it not be wise/recommended? Thanks for any advice.

Re: ecommerce app - multiple domains

The link does not go to a post, it goes to a list.

Re: ecommerce app - multiple domains

Whoops, thanks. Edited

Re: ecommerce app - multiple domains

No problem.  Look over this post - http://railsforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=14691  seems to be close.

Re: ecommerce app - multiple domains

Thanks - thoughts on if this is feasible on entirely different domains and not just subdomains?

Re: ecommerce app - multiple domains

Yes, I would think so. Questions:
1) Are you using apache?
2) What does request.env return for each domain?

Re: ecommerce app - multiple domains

We don't actually have the domains yet so I can't test anything, but yes I think we'll be using apache. Thanks for the nudge in the right direction, I might resurrect this thread at a later date smile
