Topic: rspec - fixture is being used when not requested

I have a fixture to populate a table with a single record.  In one of my descriptions, i don't call the fixture, and simply check that the table has no records.  However, the test is failing, saying there is one record there - it seems like the record from the fixture is in the db.  (i've verified this in mysql)

If i'm not calling the fixture, shouldn't i start out with an empty set of test tables every time i run spec?  Or do the records added from a fixture stay in the db?

I created the test database with "rake db:test:clone" - could that have anything to do with it?

thanks
max
