Topic: Production setup: Php front with Rails on subdomain

I have a PHP front end that does that CMS.  For queries and database operations - Rails.
After reading around I believe an option is to set up Rails as a subdomain of the php domain.
What I haven't figured out are the step I need to take to set it up.

So for instance, on the php site, the index could be http://www.mydomain.com/index.php

Then the user clicks the menu option to get a table of all registered users:

http://rails.mydomain.com/users

This make sense ? Can anyone help ?

TIA

I've done this with apache and mongrel. Run your Rails app with mongrel and use a virtual host to pass requests from apache to mongrel with mod_proxy. Check this page out for some more info:

Thank you, excellent information. so I needn't even worry about any subdomain considerations for the routes.rb ?

You shouldn't need to change routes.rb.

Cool.

Last question and dare I even try to get PHP to deliver header footer and menu while Rails delivers the  main content ?
