Topic: SVN: Cannot ignore subdirectories properly

I'm trying to figure out how to ignore some tmp-files from svn, to keep it from making me cry by listing about a bazillion tmp-files in every single svn status I do.

The offending files look like so:
$ svn status
...
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.80bc5a92e87fba6a
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.8f7543c0790fcca2
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.b78536ce94a9d9cf
...

Okay, seems simple enough.   Let's try something:
$ svn propset svn:ignore "*" tmp
$ svn status
...
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.80bc5a92e87fba6a
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.8f7543c0790fcca2
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.b78536ce94a9d9cf
...

Okay, that didn't work.  Ok, someone has a similar problem in http://www.railsforum.com/viewtopic.php?pid=35980 , I'll just see what they did there.  After trying every listed solution, I'm still stuck at:
$ svn status
...
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.80bc5a92e87fba6a
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.8f7543c0790fcca2
?      tmp/sessions/ruby_sess.b78536ce94a9d9cf
...

You'd think that "*" would match the subdirectories in tmp, but apparently that is not the case.  Surely there must be some way to match subdirectories like this too?

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?  Please help. :)

Re: SVN: Cannot ignore subdirectories properly

Try this:

$ svn remove tmp --force
$ mkdir tmp
$ svn propset svn:ignore "*" tmp/

If you have stuff in tmp you need to keep, copy it out first and then put it back.
