Topic: real time development log

How to read development log in real time?

I am using Vista. The way I read development log is open it using notepad. But for every change I made I have to close and reopen the text file to see what's new being logged instead of watching the log updates in real time as I do the changes. I hope someone can give me tips on reading the development log. Thank you very much.

Vista + notepad, holly crap, that's a real developer's combo!

When you run Mongrel, the development log gets printed in the command line.

Re: real time development log

What IDE are you using?  If I remember correctly Netbeans will output the log file to console, if it doesn't you may have to hit the command prompt and execute your server that way to get a constant "tail" of the log.

From your project directory, "script/server"

Really, sounds dreadful to me ....

Re: real time development log

Thank you.

But, tail for win32 still wouldn't display any changes in my development.log as I enter some queries in script/console. I clicked the play button but it doesn't work. I still need to Open the log each time to see what's updated. Could it be because I'm using Vista?

I search for more tail program and tried MakeLogic

and so far, it works ok on my Vista.

note: I hard code everything in notepad. What IDE do you recommend for rails?

Re: real time development log

I believe that Aptana is a fairly good IDE for Winbloze.
