Topic: RadRails has a strange problem when starting a webserver

Hi,
I had Ruby on Rails with RadRails as an Eclipse add-on on my FedoraCore 4 linux box.
Recently I've updated to FedoraCore 6 and performed the same operations to install RoR and Radrails as in FC4. Actually I added the mongrel server too, as described in this guide:
http://legacy.not404.com/cgi-bin/trac.f … RailsOnFC6
Well, everything is working fine besides starting/stopping servers in RadRails.
When I start a normal ruby server (Webrick) in the terminal it's running fine on 127.0.0.1:3000 and I can stop it with Ctrl+C.
But when I start it within RadRails the server is starting, I can access it on :3000, but Radrails hangs on "Starting Server..." forever. As a result I can't stop it within Radrails, I have to kill the ruby process. The RadRails console shows the normal output, no error messages.
Does someone has an idea what could be wrong?

Thank You in advance!

P.S.: Almost the same happens when running mongrel(0.3.13.2), but there are some ruby errors too. I want to get Webrick normaly running with Radrails first, and then

You could ask Kyle Shank (http://www.kyleshank.com) about it. He'd know if anybody would.  Or you could look at the Rad Rails source code on your own.

Make sure you have all these values correctly set:
Window->Preferences->Rails->Configuration
and
Window->Preferences->Ruby->Installed Interpreters

Then try again.

Re: RadRails has a strange problem when starting a webserver

I thought it may be because of the paths, but they are all fine:
rails   : /usr/bin/rails
rake    : /usr/bin/rake
mongrel : /usr/bin/mongrel_rails
Interpreter : Ruby: /usr/bin/ruby
ri and rdoc are fine too.
I've even seen the RadRails screencasts and the Webrick output is the same as in my console.
Mongrel is doing fine too:
** Starting Mongrel listening at 0.0.0.0:3001
** Starting Rails with development environment...
** Rails loaded.
** Loading any Rails specific GemPlugins
** Signals ready.  TERM => stop.  USR2 => restart.  INT => stop (no restart).
** Rails signals registered.  HUP => reload (without restart).  It might not work well.
** Mongrel available at 0.0.0.0:3001
** Use CTRL-C to stop.

It loads just fine and it's stable. At least when I hit stop sometimes (actually almost always) it really stops.
But it's not normal, that RadRails stays on Starting... when the server is up and running, is it?

I've just found, that I've another awful problem - I can't connect to my mysql database within RadRails - it says "Unable to connect to database, see log for more info". But I can connect to the server with the MySQL query browser. I don't know if both problems are related.
Anyway, it won't be that easy as in FC4...
Looking forward to buy a Mac sad ...

Re: RadRails has a strange problem when starting a webserver

You're right. It looks like mongrel starts as it should. But the status should be 'Started' when the server is running.

For your mysql problem: Did you have a look into the log file?
What does it say?

Did you already upgrade to the RadRails 0.7.2?

I'm using Ubuntu Linux. I also sticked to Fedora for a long time, but I found Ubuntu to be more user friendly and everything to be smoother.

Re: RadRails has a strange problem when starting a webserver

I just wanted to say, that I fixed the problem with the database. Actually, the problem was me not able to configure it right... anyway it's ok by now.
I've just updated to 0.7.2 with the hope, that this was a temporary bug... but it's still there.
I'm still searching for someone who has had this issue, but it seams it's just me.
I will write to Kyle Shank, but does someone has an idea just to point me in the right direction - what exactly could be wrong in the radrails/eclipse/whatever code?
