Ahh..I went with solution Number One.
Basically, I just created a new table called "title_copy".

In the create_artist method I just put:

@artist.title_copy = @artist.sanitized_title

And in show I have:
@artist = Artist.find(:first, :conditions => ['title_copy = ?',params[:artisttitle]])

Works and Looks Great!

you should prolly add a before_save method that updates the copy_title, otherwise when ppl try and update artist info the search will be off. 

Unless you are not going to let them do that, then it doesnt matter smile
