Topic: FastCGI and Apache 1.3

I've got Rails setup on my production web server (with around 100 sites hosted) and we're working on deploying some RoR scripts.

Performance bites, and I've tried to get FastCGI working but I don't think it's installed correctly, or there is another performance problem that I'm not aware of.

What's the best way to get FastCGI working and RoR scripts screaming?

Re: FastCGI and Apache 1.3

I've never got my head around FastCGI but whatever question I ask the answer always seems to be lighttpd.  My app flies on lighty and was worryingly dog-like on Webrick.

Re: FastCGI and Apache 1.3

Is there any crash log information that you have available?

FastCGI isn't all that stable on Apache in general, and I think version 1.3 specifically.

Re: FastCGI and Apache 1.3

If FastCGI isn't stable in 1.3, what should I do? I want to run Rails and keep my current setup as much as possible because I already have 100+ sites and don't want to break anything on the server.

Is there anythign else besides FastCGI that will speed up the Rails apps?

BTW, I have root access, so I can look through any of the logs. I don't think it's crashing - it's just painfully slow. (who knows though, maybe it is)

Re: FastCGI and Apache 1.3

Try FCGID instead of mod_fastcgi if that's what you were using. It seems to work for the Odeo guys.
