Topic: [SOLVED] - OSX Apache running, but localhost doesn't work?

Everywhere I read, I see it written over and over that all I have to do in order to have apache with PHP running on my mac with OSX.5 is to go to a control panel and check web sharing.  However whenever I go to http://localhost/ I get an error saying "could not connect to server" - same thing when I try the link in the OSX control panel that reads "your computer's website".

When I checked in console if it was running by trying "sudo apachectl start", I am told it's already running...

What happens if you try http://127.0.0.1 ?

Failed to Connect

FIGURED IT OUT!!

Turns out apache wasn't REALLY running....an error in the config file (a previous owner of this machine edited the local root directory for apache.  I changed it to my desired folder and restarted it - it fired right up.

Was lead to this solution by following the steps here:
